CHERRY BLOSSOM CREATIVE
Torie Partridge was on a decidedly different path originally – counter-terrorism work for the government brought her to Washington, D.C. But, during a long and lonely time stationed in Baghdad, Partridge realized that her occupation wasn’t exactly making her happy. So, Cherry Blossom Creative was born. Much of Partridge’s path to design success can be considered surprising and the story of her landmark products – illustrated DC map prints – is no different. They began as part of a job for Annie’s Ace Hardware, a woman-owned shop in D.C. Partridge created a large neighborhood map as part of the installation and people started asking about take-home copies. 500 prints were made, and “selling like hot cakes,” the rest, truly, is history.
